Timber Lake Playhouse is proud to bring to area audiences a truly unforgettable production full of sass, style and sisterhood. Steel Magnolias, is equal parts hilarious and heartwarming. At Truvy’s beauty shop, the motto is: there’s no such thing as natural beauty—the women are all sass and brass. Through clouds of hairspray and over the buzz of blow dryers, six southern spitfires gather each week to chat and support each other through thick and thin. But those bonds are about to be tested when M’Lynn and her daughter Shelby face a life-changing crisis. Infused with heart and humor, STEEL MAGNOLIAS is a hilarious story that touches on love, loss, and enduring friendship.

Truvy Jones runs a successful beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies in the neighborhood have a standing Saturday appointment. Along with her anxious and eager assistant, Annelle, Truvy styles the hair of many of the women about town: wealthy widow and former first lady of Chinquapin, Clairee Belcher, local curmudgeon Ouiser Boudreaux, intelligent and compassionate career woman M’Lynn, and her daughter Shelby, the prettiest girl in town. Shelby’s engagement is the talk of the town, but the joy and excitement of her wedding quickly turn to concern as she faces a risky pregnancy and a myriad of health complications. As the women of Chinquapin makes their ways over life’s many hurdles together, they find comfort (and a fair amount of verbal ribbing) in one another. “You have no idea how wonderful you are,” M’Lynn tells the ladies at the end of the play. Truvy responds, with a smile, “Of course we do.”
Steel Magnolias is directed by New York director, Dana Iannuzzi, who directed last fall’s hit show, Beehive! A 60’s Musical.  “I am thrilled to return to TLP to work on this wonderfully nuanced play with this extraordinary cast!” states Iannuzzi. “Steel Magnolias is so rich in characters that traverse so many emotional highs and lows that it is my honor to bring this play to life for TLP audiences.”
Steel Magnolias stars New York actor, Laura Speath (Noises Off), TLP Resident Acting Company members Morgan Arrivillaga and Olivia Belfie, along with Chicago actors, Michelle McKenzie-Voight (last season’s Full Monty), Nancy Hays and Sandy Spatz.
Steel Magnolias opens August 22nd and runs through Sunday, September 1st. Tickets available online at www.timberlakeplayhouse.org or by calling the Box Office at (815) 244-2035.  Box Office hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 – 3:00 and until intermission on show days.
