    Position Title: Plant Manager

    The Plant Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating employees performing railcar (tank and hopper car) cleaning, repair, and coating/paint operations in a safe and efficient manner.

    The Plant Manager is responsible for ensuring employees understand and follow company safety, quality, and production goals.

    This individual will coordinate with the Quality Assurance Manager, Purchasing Manager, Inbound Inspectors, and Department Supervisors to ensure scheduling and work assignments meet production goals.

    This individual will coordinate with the Safety Manager to ensure employees and facilities follow company policies and procedures, and Federal, State, and Local regulations.

    This position reports directly to the Vice President and President of the company.

    Duties:

    • Oversees facility, ensuring company and customer procedures, policies, and processes are carried out by employees in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations.
    • Ensures railcar cleaning, repair, coating/paint operations meet FRA and AAR requirements, safety and quality standards, customer scopes of work, and estimated out dates.
    • Reviews overall operation activities of the plant. Assessing workload, production schedules, and inbound/outbound car flow. Ensures personnel, equipment, and resources are obtained and in place to meet production and revenue goals.

    •Monitor and maintain department production schedules based on workload, customer needs, and availability of parts and supplies.

    • Review railcar repair estimates prepared by Inbound Inspector(s) for accuracy. Provide Inbound Inspector(s) with authorization to submit estimates to customers for approval upon satisfactory review.
    • Provide oversight and support to managers and supervisors with open communication, assisting them with successfully reaching their goals. Clearly defines and communicates the responsibilities, authorities, expectations, and accountabilities to personnel.
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers and resolve customer inquiries and problems in a timely manner.
    • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Vice President and President.

    Manager Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for managing employees performing railcar cleaning, repair, and coating/paint activities.
    • Responsible for managing purchasing department employees, ensuring parts, materials, supplies are sourced and obtained in time to meet production schedules. Monitor inventory needs and values. Approve quotes and purchase orders.
    • Responsible for managing maintenance department employees performing preventative maintenance and repairs to equipment and facilities, janitorial, and grounds maintenance activities.
    • Interview, hire, coach, and discipline employees.
    • Conduct employee performance evaluations.

    Skills:

    • Leadership capabilities to successfully build and maintain a successful management team to develop and carryout strategies to meet or exceed company goals by using skills to effectively communicate these strategies and goals to employees through influence, to successfully carryout and execute the strategies to reach the overall goals of the company.
    • Extensive knowledge of current AAR, FRA, and Tank Car regulations and standards including:

    · Field Manual of The AAR Interchange Rules

    · Office Manual of the Interchange Rules

    · AAR MSRP, M-1002, Section C, Part III

    · AAR MSRP, M-1003, Section J

    · AWS D:15

    • Industry knowledge of railcar inspections, repair/maintenance estimate preparation, and billing. Experience with railcar billing software.
    • Proficient with Microsoft products – Access, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word. Ability to learn and use proprietary databases and customer portals.
    • Review and interpret reports (inventory, financial statements, P&L reports) to determine areas needing cost reduction or improved profitability.
    • Able to work around heavy moving equipment.
    • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Able to work at heights up to 20 feet and in confined spaces.
    • Able to climb, squat, bend, twist, and regularly lift to 50 pounds or more (team lift) to accomplish work tasks
    • Able to use of respirator as required

    Job Type: Full-time

    Salary: $85,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year

    Experience:

    • rail car repair and manufacturing setting: 5 years (Required)
