"My narrative paintings are about the unique experience that began when we created our family through adoption. When you make room in your life for relationships to grow, the experience is often uncertain and daunting. These paintings reflect this by creating a visual space for the figures to inhabit or interact with using contrasting imagery that evokes comfort and safety with uncertainty. Loose expressive paint is placed next to descriptive, careful painting. Linear descriptions and unfinished figures evoke the process of becoming real, just as our family endeavors to define itself. Plants, rivers, and human anatomy inhabit the landscapes as personal symbols of family, changeability, fertility, longing, and reflections of the Iowa landscape where I grew up near the Mississippi and live now with my husband and four children. I work in oil paint on wooden panels."
Our gallery and gift shop will be closed from January 1-17 for cleaning and painting. Regular hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 1-4 PM and by appointment for meetings and groups by calling 563-243-3300.
